Looking into therapy is something that takes courage. It is you taking that first step into wanting to be seen, heard, and supported in your journey. You might feel an eagerness to be known and seen by someone, or a deep reluctance in being seen, but a knowing that this is what you need at this moment. I am here to create that safe space, where everything will be held in safety and understanding. I will be here to listen, encourage, and see you in what you bring to sessions. I am someone who will help you in trusting yourself, that instinct and gut you have that has brought you this far.
What I bring to sessions is myself, someone who belongs to the fat, queer, and trans/nonbinary community. I am deeply rooted in helping those within these communities who have been oppressed and ignored by society. I am a Health at Every Size (HAES) clinician who can hold the complexity of being in a fat body and navigating this world and queer/trans spaces. I am a therapist who will be in conversation with you, supporting you, and challenging you along the way.
What you will hear me explore with you in session is not only society’s affect on your mental health, but also the ideas/beliefs/patterns you grew up with. I use a psychodynamic approach that will look like me being curious about your childhood experiences. We can draw these connections together and see what patterns and beliefs from your childhood have stuck around and if you want to keep them with you; or not. Along with this, I will hold in reverie your strengths; the strengths that have brought you this far in life, that are calling you to heal and feel better.
I specialize in working with folks in the queer/trans community. I’ve worked in many other capacities in mental health for the past 13 years, and being a therapist is where I fit best. I truly enjoy working with people who experience eating disorders, anxiety issues, mood issues, self-esteem issues, family-of-origin concerns, and all of the issues that come with being oppressed by society.
Give me a call and we can set up a 15-minute consultation. We’ll ask each other questions and make sure you will get what you need from me.
