Theo thompson-guldseth (he/Him)

About Theo

Hi, I’m Theo Thompson-Guldseth (he/him), a pre-licensed therapist currently studying at the University of Minnesota. I believe deeply in the power of the here and now, while also honoring the experiences that have shaped who you are. I hold the belief that change is possible whenever you decide you’re ready—and that learning to trust yourself often begins with small, meaningful steps.

I approach therapy with curiosity, warmth, and genuine interest in you and what brought you here. My work is grounded in deep empathy and presence. I’m comfortable moving at your pace, including sitting together in silence when words feel hard to find. Creating space to breathe allows for trust to develop, and from that trust, I’m able to be honest, direct, and supportive in ways that foster real growth.

My therapeutic approach is:

  • Present-focused, while respectfully integrating your past experiences
  • Curious, collaborative, and non-judgmental
  • Grounded in emotional safety, authenticity, and trust
  • Comfortable with silence, reflection, and deeper emotional work
  • Honest and direct, while always remaining compassionate

Areas of interest and focus include:

  • Identity exploration and self-understanding
  • LGBTQIA+ affirming care
  • Building self-trust and self-compassion
  • Navigating relationships and interpersonal patterns
  • Emotional awareness, regulation, and expression
  • Exploring meaning, values, and personal growth

As a gay, cisgender man, my identity informs my work in meaningful ways. I grew up on the East Coast in a close-knit family and was surrounded by diverse communities that shaped my understanding of cultural humility and connection. These experiences guide my commitment to providing culturally responsive and affirming care.

I believe diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Everyone’s story matters, and therapy should be a space where all parts of who you are are welcomed, respected, and celebrated. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are, move at your pace, and walk alongside you with honesty and care, I’d be honored to work with you
